Unit 6 defends Dcaa futsal gold

THE Ateneo de Davao University (Addu)-bannered Unit 6 scored a three-peat victory following its gold medal finish in the just-concluded Davao City Athletic Association (Dcaa) Meet 2016 secondary girls futsal tournament held at the Addu Fr. Martinez covered court in Matina, Davao City.

Unit 6 escaped past Philippine College of Technology of Unit 5, 6-4, behind the goals of Julien Meredith Mirto, Patricia Erika Francisco and Joannah Marie Adao.

Unit 6 coach Rachelle delos Reyes said their first goal keeper was sidelined by injury during the Jesuit Athletic Meet 2016 so second goalie Jessica Marie Pido stepped up and lived up to expectations.

"Malaking contribution yung performance nya (Pido) with the help of two-time Palaro players Angela Bea De Luna, Adao and Francisco," delos Reyes said.

Delos Reyes cited the over-all performance of the team, saying, "They showed na gusto nilang manalo by giving their best. Daghan pa dapat i-improve since all of them sa football nag-start. Futsal man gud more on skills, speed and quick decision making,"

Delos Reyes, however, added that this year was the toughest Dcaa Meet for the squad as their rivals also prepared for it. She added that Unit 5 also leveled up their game, forcing a 4-4 deadlock during the second half of the championship match.

She plans to include PCT player Joyce Semacio, who scored a hat trick in the tournament, to the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2017-bound Davao City futsal team. She considers Semacio as an "extraordinary" player.

Unit 6 was also composed of Julianna Raine Taojo, Chiyo Jan Marasigan, Alessandra Ysabel Aquino, Kyana Alexandra Dimaandal, Angelica Beatrx Magno, Yunika Maria Angala and Shanelle Charllyne Ostan with Julio Orcasitas, Jr. as assistant coach.

Delos Reyes also eyes a three-peat championship in the Davraa Meet having won the gold in 2014 in Mati City and in 2015 in Tagum City.

"I'm confident that we can win the Davraa gold again but we need our players to commit to our preparations and work out our weaknesses," she added.
