De Asis, Somcio top 70 ultra marathon

ARCHIE De Asis and Shugar Somcio bagged titles in the 3rd Team Titans Davao(TTD) 70 National Ultra Marathon 2016 held in an out-and-back course from Victoria Plaza parking lot last Sunday.

PRC's De Asis clocked a total of six hours, 19 minutes and 54 seconds to rule the men's event over Chang Palmes of Team Striders (6:31:33) and Charle Campos of Philippine National Police (6:54:48) who finished second and third, respectively.

Jonathan Pido of TTD failed to defend his title having not finished the race due to body pains.

Somcio of Team Heaven Cagayan de Oro, for her part, timed 8:27:94 to rule the distaff side. She raced past Giegs Castillo of Team Davao Ultrarunners Club (8:45:06) who got the runner-up honors and defending champion Olive Fermiza of Philhealth (9:08:18) who came third.

De Asis, in a Facebook chat with SunStar Davao, said he was fortunate to win the crown this year amid stiff competition and challenging route.

"Mas advantage para sa akoang uphill ug downhill (The uphill and downhill courses were advantages for me)," he said.

The winners received certificates and cash prizes.

The proceeds of the event will benefit the Southern Philippines Medical Center Pediatric ward.
