PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte believes that there was no crime committed when boxing athlete and Senator Manny Pacquiao shouldered an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas for Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa.
Duterte made the statement during the courtesy visit of Paquiao in Malacañang on Monday.
“Your defense for Bato (dela Rosa) is right. What you donates is your skills… It is a donation. Skill. Your experience should be commensurate to wealth...There is no criminal liability,” Duterte said.
Pacquiao, who paid for the trip, came in defense of the police chief as he told Ombudsman Conchita Carpio–Morales to file cases against corrupt government officials instead of nitpicking dela Rosa.
Pacquiao the next President?
The two also shared a light moment when the President quipped about Pacquiao’s possible presidential bid in 2022.
“He’s the [next] president,” Duterte jokingly told Pacquiao as he raised the senator’s hand for a photo opportunity.
Turning serious, Duterte lauded Pacquiao for defeating World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Jessie Vargas at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada last November 5.
“I would like to send warmest congratulations from Filipino people and government to the senator for doing us proud,” he said. (Sunnex)
