OVER 1,500 developers, designers and IT students and enthusiasts will gather on Saturday, November 19, at The Centerstage, SM Seaside for the 5th GDG DevDevFest, the biggest Google technology conference of the year.
Google Developers Group (GDG) is an organized volunteer group whose main goal is to organize space to connect the best industry experts with the Cebuano audience to boost the development of Information Technology (IT).
Shad Roi de la Cruz, community manager of GDG, said, "Our aim is to have a community where developers can group together, create awesome apps, and change the world."
The DevFest provides the opportunity for developers to learn about Google technologies and other developer products, through hands-on sessions on new technologies.
Several international and local speakers are coming to the event to share their expertise. They have prepared several workshops, break-out sessions, a hackathon and minigames.
They are encouraging both techy and non-techy people to join this one-day conference.
"You don't have to be a developer to start developing. But eventually, you will become a developer when you start using the technology. Nobody is limited from developing and creating," said Johnn Mendoza from Republiq Group of Companies.
Paula Ruelan of CitySavings Bank also emphasized the key role of developers in the evolving banking industry.
"We have to explore and see what's out there, we also want to get the word out - as an employer we are looking for people whether IT, or ComSci. We are looking for people who can help us with the bank's digital transformation and strategy," she said.
GDG DevFest 2016 is the fifth DevFest since their pioneering event last 2012.
