Residents advised to be more vigilant vs crimes

THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reminded the public to remain vigilant with regard their personal safety and keep an eye on their valuable stuff as crime incidents is expected to rise as the holiday season approaches.

Speaking during the regular press conference Wednesday, at Royal Mandaya Hotel, DCPO spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Catherine Dela Rey said the city police chief already briefed station commanders on the safety protocols that will be implemented as the Christmas season draws near.

“Our city director had already directed the various station commanders on the preventive measures like deploying additional forces,” she said.

Although they have yet to come up with the security plan for the upcoming long holiday, Dela Rey said they will certainly beefed up their foot, mobile, motorcycle and bike patrols to ensure the peaceful observance of the yearly festivity.

Considering that money is flowing as the year ends because of the release of bonuses and 13th month pay, law enforcers eye to intensify their information dissemination campaign.

They plan to produce information, education and communication (IEC) materials on what to observe to avoid untoward incidents like theft for public use.

Moreover, since malls are usually the area of convergence, authorities will also coordinate with its security management to deter crimes like shoplifting.

“We will provide civilians to be deployed in different malls to secure the safety of the shoppers,” Dela Rey said and urged the malls’ security personnel to closely monitor their CCTV to determine unscrupulous activities.
