Colmenares: P2,000 SSS pension increase certain

FORMER Bayan Muna party-list Representative Neri Colmenares is certain of the realization of the P2,000 increase in the Social Security System (SSS) pension.

Colmenares pushed for the passage of the bill for the increase during the 16th Congress but it was vetoed by then President Benigno Aquino III.

He said over DyRL in Bacolod City on Wednesday that by January 2017, it is certain that the SSS pensioners will receive the first tranche of the pension hike at P1,000 and that they will work out for the release of additional tranche of P1,000 after six months to one year.

The House committee on enterprises and privatization has approved the report containing House Bill No. 18 for the P2,000 across-the-board pension increase for SSS beneficiaries.

Colmenares said the granting of the pension increase is a victory for Bayan Muna and that they expect a smooth approval in the House plenary, and in the Senate because it has already passed the previous Congress.

He also felt vindicated that SSS Chairman Amado Valdez has informed the committee that they no longer need to increase the contribution of the members.

Colmenares said that Valdez asked to give the second tranche in year 2020, but he said they want it released to the pensioners closer after the first tranche.
