6,225 MSMEs get aid

THE regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) bared they assisted a total of 6,225 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from January to June of this year.

In its performance report for the first half of 2016, DTI data showed the agency has achieved 66 percent accomplishment for their annual target of assisting some 9,500 MSMEs.

For the total number of MSMEs who availed loans, DTI said, a total of 357 were granted or some 63 percent accomplishment for its annual target of 570.

“To date, DTI Provincial Offices facilitated endorsement of loan applications amounting to P1.2 million to private and public financing institutions, which were availed by 357 MSMEs for the purpose of trading, retail store, food business and processing, rice production and marketing, among others,” DTI Regional Director Ma. Belenda Ambi said.

Availed loans, she said, were mostly small-scale financing with 35 percent of the availed loans in the bracket P10,001 to P50,000, 22 percent between P100,001 to P500,000, 20 percent for P10,000 and below, eight percent for more than P1 million, eight percent between P500,001 to P1 million and seven percent between P50,001 to P100,000.

Within the first six months of the year, eight Negosyo Centers were established in the region.

“These eight established NCs assisted 15,633 clients, rendered 16,955 services to clients, disseminated 701 information, education and campaign materials, conducted 224 trainings benefitted by 7,945 participants, and installed three systems,” read the DTI report obtained by SunStar Davao.

For the Shared Service Facilities (SSF), the trade and industry department in Davao has established 27 SSF with total project cost of some P7.3 million which generated 2,375 jobs, assisted 403 MSMEs and 3,268 beneficiaries.

These facilities include food and meat processing, organic fertilizer processing, turmeric and ginger processing and vermin composting, among others.

MSME capability building

DTI has facilitated a total of 205 trainings from January to June under the Negosyo Center, SME Roving Academy, Bottom-up Budgeting, and Carp programs in order to improve the skills of local MSMEs, thereby making them competitive in the domestic and global market.

The trainings, DTI noted, are comprised of 92 entrepreneurial, 49 skills, 35 productivity, four livelihood, nine trade and 16 other trainings (learning visit/techno/demo/forum), which were participated by 6,706 MSMEs.

DTI Regional Operation Group Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya said earlier during the Third National MSME Summit at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier, Davao City last week that the country's MSMEs, which make up 99.6 percent of the Philippine enterprises, have the potential to create productive employment and promote economic growth as they become part of the global supply chain.

“By participating and engaging MSMEs to various MSME development initiatives of the government, DTI aims to empower them to become more competitive and innovative to foster their participation in global markets,” Maglaya said.

Maglaya also presented the MSME Development Report for 2011 to 2016 wherein she said part of their accomplishment is the 2.7 million employment generation which is 139 percent of their 2 million target as of July 2011- June 2016. According to her, it will increase by yearend. (With JCR)
