CEBU’s top chess players are playing for glory in Zamboanga del Sur’s richest chess tournament on Nov. 26 at the Municipality of Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.
Top Cebuanos NM Merben Roque, Carlos Moreno III and Richard Natividad, among others, are now upbeat in their hopes to compete in this National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP)-rated tournament, which is dubbed at the Mayor Jojo Palma and Atty. Titing Albaño Cup offers more than P80,000 in cash prizes with the champion going home with the top prize of P30,000.
According to Cebu-based sportsman Joey Ardiente the tournament is part of the Araw ng Aurora’s “Badak Festival,” and sponsored by LGU, a US-based Auroranian, and co-sponsored by MD Amor Pension House, 8990 Holdings, Inc. and the Aurora Integrated Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AIM COOP).
