Cagayan De Oro’s Corrales Avenue

WHEN the popular Night Cafe of Divisoria area was abolished, Kagay-anons set out to different places to hang out in the city. The night cafe was for years, a venue for residents and visitors here to dine, shop for ukay-ukay items and be entertained in al fresco diners.

Some found good places to hang out at Corrales Avenue.

Corrales Avenue was named after Manuel Corrales Sr. elected to the Provincial Council to be the Councilor for Peace and Internal Order of the Misamis Province at sometime late 1800's.

During my childhood days, I remembered Corrales Avenue as a peaceful place in this city. Usually, it's an alternative from the crowded and traffic congested main streets of the city. The Avenue has old houses where many old families of Cagayan de Oro are residing until now.

Today, Corrales Avenue evolves instantly as a lifestyle destination of Kagay-anons with restaurants sprouting in adjacent blocks. Restaurants here serve the best dishes in town with specialties in seafood, grilled food and favorite Filipino dish.

In the nearby block, an establishment also offers quality and affordable ready-to-wear apparel and other imported fashion items from abroad. Corrales Avenue also has hotels that have affordable accommodation rates. A few blocks ahead are the Ayala Centrio Mall and the luxury Seda Hotel.

The avenue is also a preferred destination business meetings because of coffee shops along the road. Various 24/7 convenience stores also offer drinks and snacks for those who are working on nightshift or just hanging about looking for a place to eat and stay for a while.

At night, the streets here transform into a night life destination. Bars offer drinks at affordable prices. One KTV bar showcases unique LED lights inside its bar where our friends can celebrate without hurting our pockets.

For car addicts, the avenue is known for popular car accessories shop in the city. If you’re also looking for a relaxation routine, the street has various spas and massage parlors. As I have observe it’s the only street in the city that never sleeps, as I myself, sometimes present around the avenue overnight with friends to chill and relax as it affordable and fun. We also accidentally meet our long lost friends or relatives around the avenue.

Nowadays, malls are not the only place we can rely of all the things we need. We have also the simplest street or avenue that offers us quality food, products and services. To Kagay-anons and people from different places, see you at Corrales Avenue as I will be exploring one by one the newly opened stores and other amnesties that our beloved pride “Corrales Avenue” is now offering. It is continuously the emerging day and night spot destination of Cagayan De Oro City.
