FOR the first time in the history of Palarong Pambansa staging, the Province of Antique will be the host for 2017.
The Palaro Board on Friday awarded the hosting rights to Antique, a late entry after Negros Occidental, Iloilo, and Cebu withdrew their bids due to budget issues.
Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao said it’s their long-time dream to host a big event like the Palarong Pambansa.
“Today, we will face the final phase of the bidding process for the hosting of the 60th Palarong Pambansa next year,” she added.
Among the criteria considered for the selection of Palaro venues are: sports facilities to be used must be of international standards and that these are well-secured, but accessible to the general public.
Furthermore, the host local government must be capable and willing to shoulder expenses, including construction and renovation of sports facilities, billeting, and other infrastructural requirements.
Antique will also host the 2017 West Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in February next year. (HGD)
