DTI, Google launch tool for businessmen

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has launched a facility designed to fast track product sourcing and selling.

With the goal of taking local businessmen to the next level the "technopreneurship" of, the DTI partnered with Google Philippines on Tuesday for Google My Business Orientation and Sign-up Day.

A total of 85 local businessmen who are in food processing food, information technology, hotels and restaurants, retail and servicing attended the event.

Muhammad Sam Shoushi of Google Singapore said this is one way of widening the coverage of a business nationwide. It also allows small entrepreneurs to directly connect with customers online and put business information on search, maps and on Google plus.

DTI held a free demonstration on how to connect with Google My Business.

The event also offered ADWORDS, a paid advertisement on Google wherein a business bids for keywords to match his business. It is a pay-per-click method where the business owner will only pay Google every time somebody clicks his advertisement on Google.

The advertisement appears on search, on maps, +3M websites and on YouTube.

The event allowed MSMEs to sign up to Google My business for free.

Ma. Eliza Pabillore, DTI Misamis Oriental provincial director, said the innovation will be of big help for existing businesses while guiding would-be entrepreneurs searching for information.

Ruben Uy, president and manager of the Nut Cracker Homemade Products (NCHP), said the Internet tool will give his products a wider reach while keeping advertising costs down .

The DTI plans to conduct more Google My Business orientations in other parts of the region in the coming months -- two in Misamis Occidental; two in Bukidnon; one in Camiguin; two in Misamis Oriental; and one in Iligan City. (With PIA)
