La Trinidad jail undergo drug test

RANDOM drug testing has started in the Valley.

Seven Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) with drugs cases and five members of Bureau of Jail Management and Penoloy (BJMP) underwent a surprise drug test Monday morning.

Senior Jail Officer 4 John Melecio said the drug tests conducted aims to become a gauge for drug use among personnel.

“I am 100% confident that my personnel and our PDLs are negative of drug use. We are the first to do this in the region because we want to help our people to monitor themselves as early as now. I would also like to ensure that they are not using any kind of drugs and no one will be exempted from another surprise," said Melecio.

Melecio added there are 19 PDL’s with drugs cases out of the 53 committed at the municipal jail with only a handful volunteering themselves for testing.

“We have seven volunteers for the drug test who haven’t undergone laboratory testing within six months. If they turn positive in the drug use, we will file another case or put them to rehabilitation. For the case of our personnel, they shall be filed an administrative case,” Melecio noted.

The series of drug testing is in support for the administration’s anti-illegal drug campaign and “Oplan RODY” (Rid the Streets of Drunkards and Youths).

Inside the facility, Melecio said “we will implement a series of confirmatory test, intensive strip search on conjugal visits, stricter greyhound, monitoring and screening to avoid such circumstances.”

Results of the tests will be released today by the private drug testing laboratory center accredited by the Department of Health.
