Inmate stabbed by fellow detainee in Bacolod jail

AN INMATE was stabbed by his fellow detainee when he tried to pacify a commotion inside the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City on Saturday.

After the accounting of inmates, one of the detainees started a fight, investigation showed. The names of the inmates were withheld.
The injured inmate was brought to the hospital and was discharged the following day.

Inspector Mar Louie Salcedo, spokesperson of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Negros Island Region, said one of the six inmates involved in the rift used an improvised ice pick.

The commotion stemmed from a misunderstanding between the inmates, Salcedo said.

The six inmates were transferred to different district jails while the investigation is ongoing.

Two were transferred to the MBDJ-Special Intensive Care Area in Barangay Taculing while another two were brought to Negros Occidental District Jail in Bago City. The remaining two were moved to Silay City Jail.
