Murcia, Syntax lead Sharp-BUSG 40U

SYNTAX scored back-to-back wins over the weekend to tie idle Murcia Basketball Athletic Club with 2-0 record in the ongoing Sharp-Basketball Unified Sports Group 40/50 Invitational tournament at the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

The 40-Upper Huskies in Syntax uniform tamed Team Meliton Blazers of Talisay, 84-75 on Saturday and smashed Mangkas of La Carlota City, 78-68 the next day.

MuBAC, 93-81 winner over Negros Basketball Group-Kuppa Coffee and Tea and 85-81 tormentor of Alijis Basketball Club, will test Syntax on May 31 at 1 p.m., the winner getting a headway going to the second round of this double elimination tournament.

In other 40U game, ABC Gators defeated NBG Tigers, 87-78 for its first win in three outings as Kuppa Coffee and Tea tasted its second loss in a row.

In the 50U category, Team Meliton, ABC and Fujidinsu are locked at 2-1 win-loss record behind Saturday Men's Club of Homesite at 1-0. Tangub and Mangkas are tied at 0-2.

Tangub, beaten by ABC, 79-74 on Saturday, was nipped by SaMeC, 81-79 on Sunday. Tangub will face TM Blazers at 3 p.m. on May 30 and BUS Group on May 31 at 5: 30 p.m.

Fujidinsu bowed to TMB, 58-61 on Saturday but returned the next day to upend Mangkas, 82-65 behind the 23 points of Melvin Baclay who hit seven triples, Rey de Guzman's 20 markers, and Nene Sibaya's 12.

The older Huskies, who led 17-13 in the first quarter and 37-24 at the break, were never threatened by Mangkas spearheaded by the Gidaya-Tamba duo who combined for 28 points.

Mangkas 50 Uppers will collide with SaMeC at 4 p.m. on Sunday after its 40U match against NBG Tigers at 2:30 p.m. (HGD)
