LAGAWE, Ifugao -- To safeguard the general welfare of children in the province, Governor Pedro Mayam-o issued Executive Order No. 25 organizing the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC).

The council is chaired by the governor and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee chairman on social services as vice chairperson with 22 members from provincial and national offices and non-government offices.

The council is tasked to undertake all appropriate legislative, administrative and other measures for the implementation of the rights of children recognized in the United Nations Convention for the Right of Children.

It will also take social and educational measures to protect children from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, exploitation, including sexual abuse while in the care of parent/s, guardians or any other persons who is in custody of the child.

The council will further assure the child who is capable of forming his/her own views the right to express himself/herself freely in all matters affecting him/her and ensure that the views of the child be given due and to perform other functions. (Marcelo Lihgawon/PIA – CAR)
