Council condoles with Verdeflor family

THE Bacolod City Council passed a resolution extending sincerest condolences and sympathies to the family of former Mayor Oscar Verdeflor.

Verdeflor died on November 21, 2016 around 10:20 a.m. due to respiratory infection. He was 80.

The resolution stated that during his term as mayor from July 1, 1998 to March 14, 2001, Verdeflor’s pro-poor policies and programs has earned him the respect and recognition from the masses.

He initiated the “free miscellaneous fees and school supplies and feeding program” for public school pupils, a laudable program that was sustained and applied by the city government up to the present. His great concern for the city’s vendors and jeepney drivers pushed him to establish the Bacolod Vendors’ Plaza and Jeepney Terminal.

He is a man of the masses, and he was known as “the Maverick” among media people, the resolution added.

Verdeflor was remembered by his constituents for his unique sense of humor. When he was mayor, Bacolod City was elevated to the Hall of Fame as Cleanest and Greenest Highly Urbanized City in the Philippines, it added.

Verdeflor’s remains lie in state at their family residence in a Barangay Taculing.

His widow Barbara said they plan to bring his wake to the Bacolod Government Center on December 2, a day before the interment on December 3.
