THE BAGUIO City Jail Female Dorm will conduct a Fashion Show and Dinner for a Cause on November 30 from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Kamayan Sa Cordillera Restaurant, Quezon Hill.

Proceeds of the one-night event will be used to purchase a sewing machine and other livelihood materials of female dorm inmates who are now called persons deprived of liberty or PDLs.

Female dorm warden April Rose Ayangwa said the fashion show will feature original outfits handcrafted by the PDLs themselves and will be modeled by their own children.

She said tickets are priced at P500 inclusive of dinner and can be bought at the female dorm or its livelihood center. Those who couldn’t make it on November 30 can still use their tickets at the restaurant until December of this year.

Ayangwa said the female dorm has currently one sewing machine manned by two PDLs who earned their NC II in tailoring and dressmaking from TESDA financed by the city government.

“Mayor Mauricio Domogan has always been supportive of city jail programs,” she explained.

Ayangwa is inviting the public to visit the city jail female dorm’s livelihood center where various products like native bags, purses, pencil cases, handmade boxes, soaps, Christmas items and others made by the PDLs can be purchased. It also has a bakery that accepts bulk orders on cakes, breads and other pastries.

“Most of the proceeds of these enterprises benefit the PDLs and their families. It also provides a sense of accomplishment to the PDLs involved,” Ayangwa explained. (Gaby Keith/PIO)
