Sun.Star, Cebu Road Heroes ink deal to educate public on traffic

ADVOCACY group Cebu Road Heroes and Sun.Star Publishing Inc. signed an agreement last Friday to promote road safety and education, and to help address traffic problems in Cebu.

The agreement, the first between these two organizations, will start a more comprehensive coverage on traffic and road use education, both online and offline.

Peter Go, Cebu Road Heroes’ (CRH) executive director, signed the agreement with Julius Neri Jr., president and general manager of Sun.Star Publishing Inc.

“I believe this is a very important agreement because one of the biggest problems the city (Cebu) is facing is traffic, and for traffic, there is no short-term solution. I think things will get worse before they will get better, because we really lack infrastructure,” Neri said.

A big part of the problem, he added, is caused by drivers not knowing proper traffic rules, proper etiquette and

safety procedures.

“For us, Cebu Road Heroes, it is a big help that Sun.Star is supporting us in this campaign because we really need to reach majority of the people. So Sun.Star being a media platform would really help our reach,” Go said.

“Traffic does not select who should be affected, but everyone is affected, even if you don’t drive, even if you are just a pedestrian. That’s included in our advocacy.”

CRH is a Cebu-based community of concerned road stakeholders with the passion and commitment to help solve the

city’s traffic problem by educating the public on rules and regulations.

Sun.Star started publishing a daily newspaper in Cebu in 1982, and organized a network of community newspapers in the mid-1990s. It has a website at www.sunstar.com.ph.

It also publishes Sun.Star SuperBalita, a fast-growing daily in Bisaya; Bisdak Magasin; and The Cebu Yearbook.

Sun.Star also created a Facebook group called “Sumbongero,” a venue where the public can air their traffic concerns that CRH will help address.

Sumbongero is an interactive group where people can freely voice out issues and concerns that the government must notice.

Sun.Star will help raise these problems to agencies or organizations concerned.
