Eagles beat top-seed in Taiwan tournament

THE Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles beat tournament top seed Keelung CIVS Senior High School, 61-60, for their first win in four games in the 104 Yilan High School Basketball Tournament in Yilan City in Chinese-Taipei.

Coming into the game with three straight losses, the younger and less experienced Magis Eagles fielded their three most reliable players, led by Joshua Sinclair, against the country’s No.8 team.

Last Tuesday, the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) back-to-back champions lost to Nanshan Senior High School, 55-53, and to Hou Zong Senior High School, 79-65. On Wednesday, the Magis Eagles suffered their third loss to home team Yilan Senior High School, 70-51.

It was some sort of a vengeance since SHS-AdC defeated Yilan in a tune-up match held here in Cebu last year.

In all of their three defeats, coach Rommel Rasmo tried to blend his veterans and reliables with the new recruits.

The Magis Eagles are the youngest squad as they played against players who are 17 and 18 years old.

As of press time, the Magis Eagles were playing their final elimination round match against the Taishan Senior High School.

The tournament is participated by six school teams with the SHS-AdC, the only team from outside of Taiwan.
