Former cop shot dead in Negros Occidental town

A FORMER policeman, who was dismissed from the service a few years ago, was shot to death by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at Caduhada Street, Barangay Robles in La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Sunday.

Police identified the fatality as Abelardo Calderon Jr., 48, of Barangay Lalagsan.

Calderon, formerly a Police Officer 2, was previously assigned at La Castellana Municipal Police Station, but was relieved in 2012 after he yielded positive in a drug test.

Senior Inspector Jerry Nacion, chief of La Castellana Municipal Police Station, said Calderon was standing by the roadside, a few meters away from the market around 8 a.m., when the assailants fired at him and fled.

The gunman wore a bonnet while his companion wore a helmet.

Calderon succumbed to head injuries.

Police recovered from the scene of the crime 10 fired catridges of .9mm caliber.

Nacion said they have yet to establish the motive of the incident as investigation is ongoing.

“We cannot yet tell if the incident was drug-related," Nacion added.

Man shot

In Negros Oriental, a carpenter was injured after he was shot at Sitio Tapon, Barangay Tampocon 2, Ayungon on Friday, November 25.

Police identified the victim as Enrique Acabal, 51.

Acabal was attacked by James Bokingkito with a .45 caliber pistol and escaped.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound in his neck and was brought to a hospital.

Police are eyeing grudge as the motive of the incident.
