SOME 50 youth leaders are set to convene for the two-day Mindanao-wide Peace forum on December 3-4 at Brokenshire Hotel Resort and Convention Center in a bid to hammer come up with means to resolve conflict situations in a peaceful way.

The Rotary Club of Downtown Davao-Tecarro College Foundation Inc. will be having a peace body organization for change (PeaceBoc) event geared towards building the capacities of youth for Rotaract leaders from Visayas and Mindanao.

“The workshop content of this event is a capacity building workshop for young leaders to make them effective peace communicators and peace builders,” Alstair Tecarro said during Monday's Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao.

He added that the youths will be taught about the violence, non-violent conflict resolution and gender in peace issues. They will also be provided with creativity tools and communicating messages of peace.

As of now, he said, the participants for this event is limited to 50 Rotaractors since this is just the initial training and they will be the front liner to promote the advocacy in the whole country.

This project is in partnership with Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (Opapp) who sponsored the event.

Meanwhile, starting next year, the club will begin the search for the youth ambassador for peace (Yap). They will select 10 youth ambassadors for peace for the ten Rotary districts.

The qualified Yap must have a good project that is relevant to peace, with good standing membership in the club and been a resident for 10 years before being nominated.

“They will tour around the Philippines and they will be the speaker about peace then ‘yong project nila mabibigyan ng grant from the Opapp,” he said.

Tecarro said that they involved the youth since they are the front liner nowadays and youth has the large number of population in the country to effectively end violence and attain lasting peace.
