BI denies irregularity on deportation of 1,000 Chinese workers

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has assured the public that there will be no whitewash in the deportation proceedings against more than 1,000 Chinese nationals nabbed in Clark, Pampanga last week.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente gave the assurance on Thursday following reports that bribes were being offered for the release of the Chinese nationals.

“They will undergo deportation proceedings and their cases will be decided on the merits and the evidence to be presented,” Morente said.

According to the BI chief, the BI board of commissioners will hear and resolve the cases against the Chinese nationals. Also included in the investigating panel are BI Deputy Commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles.

u200bMorente promised a speedy resolution of the aliens’ cases in order to obviate any suspicions or allegations of irregularities.

The illegal aliens, who were allegedly employed to operate in an unlicensed online gambling business, were arrested in an operation conducted by the BI’s fugitive search unit, National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police inside the Fontana Leisure Park and Casino Hotel last November 24.

The raid, according to Morente, is the biggest arrest of suspected illegal aliens in the history of the BI and Philippine law enforcement. (Sunnex)
