Pavia bags hall of fame award in tax collection

THE Municipality of Pavia earned the coveted 2015 Hall of Fame Award from the Iloilo Provincial Treasurer’s Office for its excellent performance in real property tax (RPT) collection for three consecutive years.

Pavia Mayor Michael Gorriceta received the distinction from Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. during the awarding ceremony of top real property and business taxpayers and best performing municipalities in treasury and assessment services Thursday, December 1.

Pavia was also adjudged as the top performer in the collection of annual fixed tax for delivery trucks and vans.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said Pavia has been a consistent top performer in RPT collection, exceeding P10-million RPT collection target for Category A municipalities.

In fact, the town’s RPT collection from its booming businesses was more than its internal revenue allotment from the National Government, he added.

Four companies based in the town were included in the list of top business taxpayers and five were shortlisted in the top ten real property taxpayers for 2015.

The top business taxpayer was Coca Cola Bottlers Philippines Inc. (P9.3 million), San Miguel Foods Inc. (P3.4 million) ranked third, New Panay Agri-Ventures Development Inc. (P1.7 million) came sixth and Avida Land Corp. (P1.5 million) occupied the 10th spot.

Coca Cola Bottlers Phils. Inc. (P2.5 million) was also the fourth top real property taxpayer, followed by 8990 Housing Development Corp. (P2.2 million) in the fifth place, Property Company of Friends (P2.1 million) in sixth place, New Panay Agri-Ventures (P1.7 million) in the ninth place and Vitarich Corp. (P1.5 million) in 10th place.

Defensor also conferred Excellence Awards to Mayors Rey Grabato of Mina, Ronilo Caspe of Cabatuan, and Millard Villanueva of Concepcion for their treasurers’ outstanding performance in tax record management and effective real property tax collection.

In his message, the governor stressed effective and efficient tax collection system is prerequisite in public governance since taxes are the lifeblood of the government.

“Without it, the government cannot function. The taxes you pay fuel the social and infrastructure services we provide to improve the wellbeing of our people,” he said.

Defensor also assured the taxpayers of the province their taxes are used appropriately.
