Pink and loving it

PINK October was jampacked with activities as a way to show support in raising awareness about breast cancer, one of which was the Pink Barbie exhibit that ran from Oct. 22-30. It is now on its third year and was held at The Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu.

This exhibit shows the designs created by students and alumni of The University of San Carlos’ School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Design-Fashion Design Program.

Since 2014, the Barbie dolls are draped in pink-hued evening gowns in various silhouettes crafted from varying forms of inspiration. This year, the theme is Filipiniana.

Four of the participating designers were awarded for their gowns namely Pearl Arandia who won first place with her old rose-toned, heart-shaped filipiniana ball gown silhouette with tone on tone embroideries and encrusted with acrylic stones and pearls for that classic touch; followed by Stef Tirado whose design won second place and Celine Borromeo’s which won third place. Apart from that, Verna Mapula’s received the recognition Most Facebook Likes for her design.

Other participating designers included Alex Eturma, Aliya Abdurahman, Anna Thalia Mascariñas, Arianne Noval, Bea Bajarias, Bret Sambajon, Carol Escasinas, Elgreg Orais, Hannah Lee, Honey Borga, Iya Quisido, Jem Borces, John Arellano, Judy Sarmago, Karen Sasil, Kathlyn Logroño, Katrina Badilis, Lemuel Tan, Lian Lacandalo, Lizbeth Densing, Mary Makawili, Matthia Tangoan, Nikki Ho, Paco Serafica, Page Uy and Roxanne Barroquillo.

With every doll sold, all proceeds will go directly to ICanServe Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization with the mission to provide women breast care health, breast cancer information and provide services to help survivors recover effectively.
