Independence footfest set

THE Davao Football Association (DFA) Independence Day Football Festival is all set to kick off on June 12 to 14 at the Tionko football field in Davao City.

DFA grassroots development officer Ramonito Carreon, who guested with DFA women's committee chair Rachelle Delos Reyes in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex activity center of SM City Davao, said the event features mixed six to eight years old, mixed nine to 10, boys and girls 11 to 12, boys, 14 years old, boys and girls 16 years old, men's open, women's open and 38 years old and above categories.

Delos Reyes said they expect at least 10 teams in each category, adding: "Teams from outside Davao are also encouraged to join the competition."

"May bagong category tayong dinagdag kasi gusto ng mga older players na makapaglaro din sila, so gumawa kami ng 38 years old and above category for them," Delos Reyes said.

Carreon, for his part, said the tournament will follow the 7-aside format.

The event aims to promote development of grassroots and youth football and at the same time hone the skills of players through friendly competitions.

Trophies and certificates awaits the top teams in each category.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,000 for non-DFA member, while P500 for DFA members.

Carreon said DFA officials will grace the opening rites of the tournament.

Deadline of registration is set at 5 p.m. of June 6. A coordination meeting at the DFA Clubhouse will also be held on the same day.

The three-day event is also supported by the Philippine College of Technology and Medvil Farms Inc.
