42,000 drug surrenderees eyed before end of 2016

THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Negros Island Region aims to reach 14,000 more drug surrenderees through Oplan Tokhang before the year ends.

This would mean almost 42,000 surrenderees if the projected additional number will be added to the 27,399 recorded by PRO-NIR as of December 1.

The current number includes 25,471 users and 1,928 pushers.

To immediately reach the target, Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, acting regional director of PRO-18, said they will give cash incentives to chiefs of police and other heads of any police units, who man the drug operations.

Chiefs of police will receive P500 for at least five drug surrenderers in their area and P2,000 for any personnel, who leads a positive operation against illegal drugs.

Gumban said the cash incentive is a reimbursement for their expenses when they conduct drug operations.

He added that the apprehension of drug suspects and those included in the drugs watchlist and target list will undergo a process and validation.
