13th Acosta Cup finals on Dec. 11

AFTER a long season, Aguilas Dabaw will collide with the Philippine College of Technology (PCT) in the championship match of the 13th Acosta Cup Ladies Football Tournament set at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, at the Tionko football field in Davao City.

The defending champion Aguilas Dabaw entered the finals with six wins, one draw and one loss while PCT had a 6-1-2 standing.

D' Davao Survivors placed third in the tournament organized through the initiative of Davao City Councilor Mabel Sunga-Acosta.

Aguilas forward Celina Simone Jaldon, in a Facebook chat interview with SunStar Davao, said the upcoming championship game is going to be a great match-up as they will both have a complete roster during the event.

"PCT is a tough opponent but with teamwork and positive attitude, for sure we will pull it off and defend our title," Jaldon said.

She recalled that they bowed to PCT in their first clash but were able to redeem themselves with a vengeance after beating the latter in their rematch.

"Our first loss was because we weren't complete and wala kami ng subs," the forward said, adding "but in the second game, most of us were complete while the they were not."

She added that their coach Jessie Gravino has a unique game strategy and makes shuffling rotation, saying: "He does that so that our opponent won't know where our offense will be coming from."

Meanwhile, University of the Philippines-Mindanao and Soya Football Club were eliminated earlier.

The awarding rites will follow after the game at 3 p.m. (ABM)
