Woman hurt in shootout between drug suspect, cops

A 40-YEAR-OLD woman got hurt after a slug from a revolver grazed her left elbow and body in an alleged shootout with the police and a drug suspect in Barangay Tanke, Talisay City last Wednesday.

Maria Teresa Mabala, 40, was treated at the Talisay District Hospital.

Shortly before the incident, SPO3 Vincent Taladua and SPO2 Jeffrey Diola were patrolling in Sitio Rattan at 8 p.m. when they spotted two men walking in the area.

But the two men later identified through witnesses as Jason Napalla and his cousin Jeffrey suddenly ran away when they spotted the patrol car. The police officers chased them.

Jason and Jeffrey, however, ran to different directions. The police team decided to chase Jeffrey, who ran toward the interior portion of the village where there were many people gathered.

Jeffrey allegedly pulled out an improvised revolver and fired at the police officers, but missed.

The slugs, however, ricocheted and hit Mabala, who happened to pass by.
