Ex-cop linked to drugs shot dead in Bacolod

A FORMER policeman was shot to death by two unidentified men at Purok Sigay, Barangay 2 in Bacolod City Thursday night (December 8).

Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias Jr., head of Police Station 2, identified the fatality as Ernie Jaminal, who was once a Police Officer 2.

Initial investigation showed that Jaminal was standing by the roadside around 9:30 p.m. when the assailants fired at him.

He sustained two gunshot wounds. Police recovered three bullet cases of .45 caliber.

Villarias told Sun.Star Bacolod that Jaminal was arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) two years ago.

He added that he is not sure about Jaminal’s last assignment, but he said the victim took a refresher training course in Victorias City and then went on absent without leave.

Villarias said Jaminal had been staying in Barangay 2 for two years already, but he was not included in the station’s drugs target list.

Others would presume that he was a police asset because he would show up during police operations in the barangay, he added.

Although the motive of the incident has yet to be established, Villarias said it could be drug-related.

Meanwhile, in Sibulan, Negros Oriental, a drug surrenderer was shot to death by two unidentified men on a motorcycle along the national highway of Barangay Boloc-Boloc Wednesday.

Police identified the fatality as Damaso Orosca Jr., 35. He was under the town’s drugs target list.

Investigation showed that Orosca was standing near a meat shop when the assailants shot him using an unknown firearm.

Orosca sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
