‘Drugs, sex trade’ in Taculing jail probed

THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Negros Island Region will conduct an investigation on the alleged prostitution and proliferation of illegal drugs inside the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area (MBDJ-SICA) in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City.

Inspector Mar Louie Salcedo, BJMP-NIR spokesperson, said Monday the regional office will verify the reports that circulated in the media on Monday.

Salcedo said they are closely monitoring the entry of illegal drugs in all district jails after they recovered sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu,” during the conduct of their greyhound operations.

“We know how big the problem of illegal drugs is,” he added.

On the alleged prostitution inside the jail, Salcedo said it would be impossible for women to enter the compound because of tightened security measures unless they have connections inside.

Chief Inspector Jonairy Sitchon, MBDJ-SICA jail warden, denied the reports and claimed these were purely allegations.

“We do not know where the reports came from but somebody probably wanted to sabotage the good governance at the district jail,” he said.

Sitchon added that they are very strict in their course of action against illegal drugs and they are closely monitoring high-profile inmates.

He also said that prostitution is impossible inside the jail because they even strictly prohibit conjugal visits.
