Pelayo: Simple pleasures of the holiday season

GO AHEAD. Find a seat in Plaza Angel and relish that spot for a while. Order your favorite bibingka, puto bumbong and tsokolateng binatirol…It’s worth the wait! See your kabalens basking in the night with the lighted fountain sparkling bright. Ahh! Your binatirol has arrived. Do not gulp that hot beverage right away. Just take a sip and savour the flavour. Appreciate the architecture of the old municipio which is now the Museo. And how can someone not notice the majestic Holy Rosary Parish?

These are just a few of the many reasons why our folks from abroad keep coming back home in Angeles City. Its famous heritage district is a classic that ATOP made a repeat. Old railways transformed into green parks, now friends and families gather up taking groupies along the barks.

Our local cuisine is a favorite tourist attraction. We got Camalig, Café Fleur, Bale Dutung, and too many to mention. So many varieties of sisig: Aling Lucing’s, Mila’s, even Didi’s also created a pizza made of sisig. If the night is still young, there are so many places to go to have fun. BNB’s balugbug and paldewut make my knees ‘mangalambut.’ Want to see a great nocturnal view down below? Try Azurro, Central Park, or Tugs Resto.

The halls of the giant malls are vastly decorated as this season is celebrated. Getting frustrated to find a parking? Drop by at Park-Inn and spend some time chillin’ if you know what I mean. If you want more than the usual San Mig, try the local craft beer; it’s refreshing when it’s ‘malamig.’

No more boring weekends in Porac because Sandbox now operates beyond its usual clock. Alviera continues to expand. You don’t believe me? Ask Ayala Land.

Finding it difficult to purchase a queso de bola? “Masarap din ang cheddar” – I’m not making you ‘bola.’ So many types of hams; some a pear-shaped while others are cooked in pineapple. Pro-stateside would prefer Spam but now that we’re re-establishing ties with China, MaLing is “oki na.”

There are so many ways to enjoy the holiday season without taking a toll on our roll. But the most important thing of all is what Dr. Bong Alvaro shared with us during a small get together last week. Let’s not forget the main reason why we are all celebrating Christmas every year.

While we are busy attending parties or preparing for the Noche Buena or exchange gifts, let us make time to reflect, remember, pray and give thanks to the Lord who gave the most essential gift for us and that was His Son, the baby who was born in the manger.
