Oro police chief to receive anti-drug campaign award

THE Cagayan de Oro City police chief is set to receive a national award Friday, December 16, in Manila for outstanding performance in the government's war on drugs.

City police director Senior Superintendent Ronnie Francis Cariaga is a recipient of the Philippine National Police (PNP) award for his commendable performance and accomplishments in the campaign against illegal drugs.

Cariaga will receive the award from Senator Vicente Sotto III which will be presented by PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa and Anti-Illegal Drug Group (AIDG) Acting Director Senior Superintendent Albert Ignatius Fero during the first founding anniversary of the PNP AIDG in Camp Rafael Crame, Quezon City Friday, December 16.

Cariaga bested other highly urbanized cities nationwide and was adjudged "Best Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group-Highly Urbanized City Level".

Data from Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao from July to December 14, this year, showed that the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) has arrested 677 drug personalities and yielded nearly 6,000 drug dependents who responded to "Oplan Tokhang" (Toktok-Hangyo or knock and plead).

The same record showed Cocpo has been able to confiscate 614 sachets, 414.12 grams and 21 packs of methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu" and nine sachets, nine small T-bag and one rolled marijuana, during police operations.

Since last month, several local lawmakers wanted to oust Cariaga following the kidnapping incident of Enrique Fernandez III on October 23, this year which was allegedly perpetrated by five policemen from Cocpo's Crime Against Persons and Property Desk.

Cariaga earlier said he was willing to be replaced should the city lose its trust and confidence in his leadership. He vowed to continue his job in maintaining peace and order in the city and fight against criminal and lawless elements.

Iligan City police chief Senior Superintendent Leony Roy Ga will also receive a similar award as "Best Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operation Task-Group-Station Level", besting the rest of police stations in the country.

The Iligan city police office have arrested 201 drug personalities and seized 422 sachets and one pack shabu and 34 sachets of marijuana in the same period.

"We are very happy and deeply honored for these twin awards by our hardworking city directors. This will not only give justice to the hard work of our personnel on the ground but also encourage them to strive harder amidst many challenges and trials while performing their jobs as policemen,” Northern Mindanao police director Chief Superintendent Noel Constantino said.
