Contract extension with IPM-CDC eyed

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said on Thursday that he will recommend a two-month contract extension with garbage operator IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC).

"It is very practical, reasonable and realistic approach," he said.

The four-month contract of IPM-CDC, which started on September 3, will end on December 31 this year.

Leonardia said the bidding for the new garbage hauler in the city will start on the first week of January next year.

"There is no other way, but to extend their contract," he said.

Leonardia said that when he assumed office in June, the garbage collection contract of Dynamic Builders was also extended until September.

The mayor said the practice is allowed under Republic Act 9184, or the Government Procurement Reform Act.

The IPM-CDC could also join in the next year’s bidding, he said.

Leonardia said thatthe performance of IPM-CDC had improved, adding that the firm were fined in the first two months after they failed to address the garbage problem in the city.

The mayor said that P60,000 will be deducted from their billing statement.

Meanwhile, Leonardia urged the public to report to the Department of Public Services if there are any uncollected garbage wastes in their areas.
