PCNHS student laid to rest

BITTER tears were shed for the 16-year -old student from Pines City National High School, who was buried on a gloomy Friday afternoon.

On the way to the cemetery, parents Claire and Gener were still in shock, with a distraught father and a dazed mother mumbling there were no more tears to be shed for her little boy, exhausted from her wailing since Monday feebly asking for justice.

Friends, teachers, strangers and classmates gathered for final rites at the Saint Vincent Chapel to bid goodbye to the young boy who violently died on his way to school at the start of the week.

PCHNS 10th graders held fresh white roses for their fallen classmate and vowed not to pass through Labsan Street saying they got scared at the fate of their friend while teachers held back tears.

The teener succumbed to at least 40 stab wounds while passing through the notorious shortcut on the fateful morning with his murderers carting his gadgets and lunch money.

The City Government of Baguio and the Guardians Reform Advocacy for Cooperation and Economic Prosperity, Inc. (GRACE-Guardian) have pooled a P150,000 bounty for information leading to the arrest of the murderers.

Michael Lawana, president of the Baguio City Association of Barangay Councils and city council representative said a meeting with Kayang Extension village chief is in order to address the clamor to act on the Labsan street problem.

Reports given to SunStar Baguio reveal numerous students have fallen victim to crimes like robbery, molestation and bullying, coercion to take in drugs with complaints being forwarded to the barangay with no action taken.

Lawana added the barangay will be asked to present their peace and order program and augment it if needed.

“Titignan natin ang pagkakamali nila,” added Lawana.

Lawana said the provision of a CCTV in the area is on the top of concerns for the moment and will find funding for the equipment.

PCNHS students have been forewarned on using the shortcut which is notorious for petty crimes and is not the first time a death has occurred in the area.
