DUE TO the expected increase of garbage starting the third week of December in the Summer Capital, the General Services Office (GSO) is appealing to residents of Baguio as well as tourists to recycle their waste materials if necessary to lessen the expenditure of the City Government in the collection and hauling as well as to protect the environment.
City General Services Officer Romeo Concio said the city is collecting an average of 190 tons of garbage per day and expecting additional 15 to 20 tons these days.
u201cFor every ton, we are spending P1, 432 para sa hauling at tipping sa Capas, Tarlac. We are projecting that there might be an increase in the volume of garbage for December especially towards and the start of January until Panagbenga Festival. The more people, the more waste that would be generated,” Concio said.
More waste is expected in the public market, parts of Central Business District and barangays like Trancoville and Aurora Hill.
The GSO has started their information and education campaign among the barangay officials, residents and house helpers who usually manage garbage to practice recycling as well as reducing and reusing of garbage materials.
u201cIf they can continue lalo na sa barangay yung kanilang segregation that will help us a lot kasi nga mababawasan ang kokolektahin natin,” Concio said.
Garbage collectors are also doubling efforts from early in the morning until late night just to collect waste in the city.
u201cYung request natin sa ating mga residente to cooperate with us, to help us, be more vigorous sa ating segregation,” Concio ended.
