CPDRC sets Family Day for inmates tomorrow

INMATES of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) will be able to spend quality time with their families tomorrow, Dec. 24, as the management decided to dedicate a “Family Day” for all inmates.

The jail will start receiving visitors from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; the Family Day is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., said acting warden Gil Macato.

A team of police will be augmented to help secure the facility, but they will only be tasked to secure the perimeter.

Many people are expected to flock in outside the facility as the Cebu City Jail is also expected to have their Family Day tomorrow.

Macato said that each inmate, including detained suspected drug lord Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro, is allowed to have three visitors.

Alvaro’s mother Emma and his wife are among those who will visit him after Gov. Hilario Davide III granted the family’s request to allow them to visit the high-risk inmate.

Macato advised visitors not to bring banned items like cellular phones, laptops, ice cream, cakes, among others.

For easy inspection and fast entry of visitors, he urged them to wear slippers, not shoes and not to wear jackets or carry bags.

If one has to bring money, only reasonable amount and food must only be good for three persons only.

At present, there are 2,808 inmates, with 166 of them are female, said Prison Guard 1 Ludivina Briones.

With the total number of inmates plus their visitors, the jail is expecting at least 11,200 people to be secured tomorrow.

Macato, however, said that some inmates may not be expecting any visitors because of the distance where their families are residing and the lack of fare to use in coming to Cebu City.
