Palace to investigate slain Catanduanes publisher

EXECUTIVE Secretary Salvador Medialdea said the authorities are investigating the background of slain local newspaper publisher Larry Que.

In a statement, Medialdea said the Palace immediately ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to investigate Que's murder upon learning of the incident.

"We are digging Mr. Larry Que's background as a politician and a businessman because his paper is just two weeks old," he said.

But as a matter of policy, he said the Task Force on Media Security will treat such case as work related until final determination.

"To leave no stone unturned, the PNP through its Task Force Usig is now investigating on the ground," Medialdea said.

He said the investigators have sent initial report.

Que, a publisher of a local tabloid in Catanduanes, died in the hospital on December 20 after two gunmen on board a motorcycle shot him while in front of his office building.

Que reportedly ran for a mayorla post in Virac during the May elections but lost. Two months ago, he put up a local tabloid in Catanduanes.

Before Que was killed, his tabloid discussed a raid by a team of anti-narcotics policemen of a clandestine shabu laboratory in Barangay Palta Small in Virac town that could process 9.6 tons of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as “shabu,” a month. (SDR/Sunnex)
