'Nina' continues to weaken, makes landfall in Batangas

TYPHOON Nina has slightly weakened after making landfall over Tingloy, Batangas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday, December 26.

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa said Batangas, northern portions of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Islands are under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 3.

Cavite which was under TCWS Number 3 earlier is now under TCWS Number 2, along with Metro Manila, Rizal, southern Quezon, Marinduque, Laguna and the rest of Mindoro provinces.

The rest of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Bulacan, Pampanga, southern Zambales, Romblon, Camarines Norte, Bataan and Calamian Group of Islands are currently under TCWS Number 1.

The state weather bureau said "Nina," which is heading west northwest at 20kph, has a maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph.

Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 400 km diameter of the typhoon, and sea travel is still risky over the seaboards of northern Luzon.

Pagasa said light to moderate with occasional heavy rains affecting Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Pampanga may persist until 1 p.m., December 26. (PNA)
