'Nina' makes landfall in Lubang Island, moves to West Philippine Sea

TYPHOON Nina (Nock-ten) makes landfall over Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro and is now moving towards West Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said on Monday afternoon, December 26.

In its 2:00 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 215kph and is expected to move West of Iba, Zambales by Tuesday morning, December 27.

Pagasa said the estimated rainfall amount brought by the typhoon is from moderate to heavy within the 400km diameter of the typhoon.

The western portion of Batangas and northern portion of Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island is now under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 3.

Oriental Mindoro, the rest of Occidental Mindoro, Cavite, and the rest of Batangas are under TCWS Number 2, while Metro Manila, Rizal, Marinduque, Laguna, Bataan, Southern Zambales, Southern Quezon, and Calamian Group of Islands are under TCWS number 1.

Pagasa said the typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday morning, December 28.

The weather bureau added that sea travel is risky around Northern Luzon. (Sunnex)
