'Nina' maintains course, traverses West Philippine Sea

TYPHOON Nina (Nock-ten) has maintained its course and is now traversing the West Philippine Sea, the state weather bureau said Monday evening, December 26.

In its 11:00 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

Lubang Island, Bataan and Southern Zambales are placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 1.

Pagasa said at 10:00 p.m. Monday, the eye of the typhoon was located at 240 kilometers west Southwest of Iba, Zambales.

The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 300 km diameter of the typhoon, Pagasa added.

The weather bureau said sea travel around Northern Luzon is still risky.

The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on late evening of December 27 or morning of December 28. (Sunnex)
