Community help sought in Strawberry fest '17

LA TRINIDAD is seeking support of the different academic institutions, community groups and agencies for an improved Strawberry Festival in 2017.

“We hope our partners like Benguet State University, other institutions, and other community based organizations will be more active and supportive of our plans on this upcoming festivity,” Tourism Officer Valred Olsim said.

Olsim remains hopeful different groups will start to initiate their own programs and provide assistance to the local government unit or the Department of Tourism to help promote the municipality.

“We hope that groups would come to us and volunteer and say they are willing to help us in organizing our festivities better. Because when we respond to our activities, we will surely have better inputs,” he said.

Olsim added La Trinidad-based event organizers that have the capability to organize big events are welcome to help.

“The executive council is composed of the mayor, council and tourism office. It is a challenge for us because our committees who are also coordinators have other office functions too. Nevertheless, private groups who can also organize the festival are good since they can put a lot of concentration and effort to it,” Olsim said.

“It’s time we give back to our town called home. If they see rooms for improvement and they think they can do something about it, they should let us know. Ideas are always welcome to us. The LGU and the DOT for sure is willing for active partnerships on this,” Olsim added.

The tourism officer cited how Baguio City coordinates for events during the Flower Festival and Christmas celebrations.

“In the academe, the University of Baguio would treat a free concert to the public, Saint Louis University has lantern parade and the University of the Cordilleras offers their community service and even donate master plans for improvement of the city. They always think for the betterment of the community,” said Olsim.
