Davao Football Association's women's invitational squad nearly finalized

A WOMEN-composed football team is in its final selection stage to determine the team's final list of players that would represent Davao Football Association (DFA) in the 1st Women's Football Invitational slated July 11 to 19 in Dumaguete City.

DFA women's committee chair Rachelle Delos Reyes bared this during her recent appearance in the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex activity center of the SM City Davao.

Delos Reyes said that DFA was invited along with 11 other football associations in the country to vie for the title in the 11-a-side tournament format.

The DFA conducted its last tryout session last Saturday at Tionko football field wherein the selected players will compete against the squads of other associations.

"The organizers established a rule that all players who will be playing for their respective associations must be born in their own regions," Delos Reyes said.

She added that from the original 30 players who signed for the tryouts, the list will be cut down to just 18.

"We will look into their individual skills as well as their attitude in playing the sport," Delos Reyes said.

After the final roster of players is released, the team will undergo a month-long training session in preparation for the competition.

"May mga bagong sumali sa tryouts pero mas madami parin ang mga experienced players na sumali. We have a former Malditas player and may mga players din tayo SOS Children's Village. We hope that we can form the best team that could represent DFA well in the competition," Delos Reyes added.

Trophies and medals are at stake for the top performing teams in the competition.
