PNP: 10 arrested over illegal discharge of firearms

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested 10 persons allegedly involved in the illegal discharge of firearms.

In an update on its “Ligtas Paskuhan 2016” campaign from December 16 to December 30, 10 person including a member of the Philippine Army identified as Corporal Lovelyson Cutas Larede and nine civilians were arrested for allege illegal discharge of firearms.

It said the PNP recorded 14 cases of illegal discharge of firearms during the said period in which two were from the National Capital Region, Calabarzon and Cordillera Administrative Regions, three in Ilocos Region and one each in Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao.

The PNP said the lone victim of illegal discharge of firearms in the Central Visayas was killed, while one of the victims in region Calabarzon was injured.

However, according to the PNP Directorate for Operations, there were two policemen involved in the illegal possession of firearms, they were Police Officer 1 Arthur Malayo who is assigned at the Sarangani Police and Police Officer 1 Ronel Pantig who belongs to the Pasig City Police Office.

Among the suspects were Wilfredo Duenas of Barangay San Quintin, Rizal, Lawin East Kalinga province, Mariano Jimenes of Barangay Bical, Bayambang, Pangasinan, Elmo Refuerzo of Barangay Salindeg, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur and Dominador Tugarino Sr. of Barangay San Miguel, Balungao, Pangasinan.   

The PNP is yet to clarify if all the names mentioned above were already arrested.

Eight cases of stray bullet involving five victims, including one fatality, was reported to the PNP.

Earlier, PNP chief Ronald Dela Rosa warned police officials of possible relief if they were involved in the illegal discharge of firearms and also if they failed to solve such cases in their areas of responsibility.
 
“No mercy kami sa inyo. Wala kaming patawad. Kapag kayo ay nahuli talagang tutuluyan namin kayo. You will face the full force of the law lalong lalo na kung kayo ay pulis. That is a big no 'pag kayo ay pulis,” he said.

“Malayo man ako, hindi ko kayo mapuntahan para bugbugin, pero makakarating sa inyo ang batas. Tatanggalin ko kayo sa serbisyo at kakasuhan ko kayo kaya mag-ingat kayong mga pulis na magpapaputok,” Dela Rosa added. (Sunnex)
