Naga inmates save P10 a day for SSS

MORE than a hundred inmates in the City of Naga Jail received a chance to avail themselves of benefits and services from the Social Security System (SSS).

The City Government of Naga enrolled 117 inmates in SSS’ AlkanSSSya program. It launched this in a recent ceremony in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s (BJMP) facility in Barangay East Poblacion.

Through the program, inmates can avail themselves of lifetime benefits and social security protection by depositing P10 per day to attain the mandated P312 minimum SSS monthly requirement.

Around 160 coin boxes were installed inside the jail where the prisoners can drop their contributions, which will be collected by SSS personnel. The coin boxes were constructed with the help of the Korean Electric Company (KEPCO-SPC) based in Barangay Colon, Naga.

AlkanSSSya is a micro-saving program. Personnel from SSS will account for and collect the accumulated savings at the end of every month, using the appropriate SSS forms. Any amount in excess of the required P312 monthly contribution will be added to the next collection. Members of SSS can get retirement, maternity, and death and funeral benefits.

Present during the launch were Mayor Valdemar Chiong, KEPCO-SPC president Chang Yong Cho, SSS 7 Assistant Vice President Helen Solito and BJMP 7 Director Chief Supt. Serafin Barreto Jr.

In an interview, Chiong said that aside from program, he also announced to the inmates and jail personnel that they will soon be transferred to a new jail in Barangay Naalad. The facility, which is expected to be finished by July, will house around 200 detainees.
