Padilla: City's Christmas baby, balikbayans and top international athletes honored

TWO significant and joyful events held this week accentuated the caring and sharing spirit of Silahis ng Pasko sa Baguio 2016. On Christmas Day, SNPB '16 greeted and heartily welcomed Baby Boy Jason Mapanao dubbed as the city's lucky Christmas baby. He was born at 12:36 in the cold morning of December 25, at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC); his weight was registered at 3.08 kilograms. The newly born baby's mother Teresa; 33, said Jason is her sixth child (two girls and four boys). The eldest is an 11 year-old daughter an elementary school 4th grader. Her husband Alhie, 37 is a construction worker. The family resides at Km. 4, Asin Road, this city. The attending physician was Dr. Mariane Joy Tabal.

Last Monday morning, the SNPB Executive Committee led by City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) head Betty Fangasan and I as co-chairperson of the Yuletide Season annual project visited the mother and child at the BGHMC. With the group were OSCA head Forester Isaias Barlongan, Edit Ibarra, president of the Federation of Baguio Senior Citizens Associations, my wife Consuelo Sol and Baguio Balikbayan Jossie Delanila from Scout Barrio Barangay, Camp John Hay, event host with her husband Bonnie who was not able to join us. The Balikbayans gifted the lucky baby with at least P3,000 and assorted baby items. On the other hand, FBASECA presented baby clothes, feeding milk bottles and a blanket, OSCA gave assorted canned goods while my wife gave assorted cookies and softdrink packs. The CSWDO gave the family a sack of rice, all done in the spirit of Christmas!

Yesterday, Friday, Silahis ng Pasko sa Baguio '16 warmly greeted and honored this year's Baguio Balikbayans and the top international athlete-achievers with a fellowship party and recognition program held at the DOT-CAR Sunshine Park. The successful gathering was a partnership effort by the honorees, the Baguio City Tourism Office, Ompong Tan of Colorworld, City Councilor Lilian Fariñas, Tony Candelaria, President of the Wushu Federation of the Philippines-CAR Chapter and ofcourse the dedicated social workers from the CSWDO and the Day Care Centers and tri-media practitioners. I will have more inspiring details of the special day revelry next week.
