AN alleged thief in Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City was killed by two men wearing black hooded jackets a day before 2016 ended.
Nilo “Loloy” Paredes, 34, a resident of Sitio Nangka Lumoy, Barangay Gun-ob was shot to death by unknown suspects on a motorcycle while he was standing outside a general merchandise store at 1:40 a.m. last Friday.
PO2 Dan Gacoscosim, investigator of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section, said they will check if Paredes was included in the drug watchlist of the barangay anti-drug council.
“Ang giingon sa barangay tanod notorious gyod to siya nga kawatan (According to a barangay tanod, the victim was a notorious thief),” Gacoscosim said.
In the initial police investigation, witness Rudy Berdin, 27, told investigators that he was with his colleagues eating noodles in a sari-sari store near the general merchandise when they heard an explosion.
Berdin said they thought it was just a firecracker, but it was followed with more explosions.
Berdin and his friends looked outside and saw Paredes lying lifeless near the door of the general merchandise.
Paredes had gunshot wounds in his forehead, below his right ear, chest, right side and right arm.
The suspects immediately fled.
Empty shells found in crime scene were believed to be of a .45 pistol.
Gun-ob barangay tanod Benito Baguio said the victim was known as a thief in their village but was not facing any complaints.
Gacoscosim said they cannot say yet if it’s his involvement in theft incidents that caused the attack or if it is related to illegal drugs. Police are still investigating the incident.
