Gunmen rob shopping center exec, wife

AN EXECUTIVE of a shopping center and his wife lost more than P100,000 in cash and valuables in a robbery by motorcycle-riding men in Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Tuesday, January 3.

Senior Superintendent Romulo Cleve Taboso, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, identified the victims as Jonas Sy, the manager of Ipil Shopping Center, and his wife, Sisi Wu.

Taboso said the victims were robbed around 7:15 p.m. Monday, January 2, in the village of Ipil Heights, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The police official added investigation showed the couple was on the way home when two of the three unidentified suspects blocked their way and at gunpoint told them to give their cash and valuables. The other suspect served as lookout.

The suspects took away the bag of Sy’s wife containing more or less P100,000, two mobile phones, a pocket Wi-Fi and an iPod.

The police said two people were tracked and arrested through the victim’s iPod Global Positioning System in a pursuit operation but the couple failed to identify whether they were among the suspects.

Taboso said the two persons, who were arrested in the village of Dalangin Muslim, Titay, this province, were taken to the police headquarters in Ipil for further investigation. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
