Village councilor faces gun raps for shooting son

AN ILLEGAL possession of firearms complaint was filed against a village councilor who shot his son during a family gathering last New Year’s eve celebration at Manuel Guianga village, Tugbok District.

Charged for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensvie Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act was Manuel Guianga village councilor Efren Quijada Bulagao Sr., 64 a resident of Purok 10, Sitio Sarro, Manuel Guianga village, Tugbok District.

Based from police reports, police officers of the Tugbok Police identified the victim as Efren Andal Bulagao Jr, 34, a banana grower.

The affidavit of apprehension and complaint filed by Village Captain Ruel Lorete Ayog stated that around 12:10 of January 1, 2017, the older Bulagao called him and informed him that he accidentally shot his son Efren Jr.

They confirmed this when they went to Bulagao's house.

The other village officials, assisted by the victim's daughter, brought Efren Jr. to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for treatment.

Ayog said that he went inside the house and recovered the weapon used in the table, a one unit of .45 caliber pistol.

He later endorsed the respondent to Tugbok Police, and turned over the gun.

The case is now being resolved by Prosecutor Rizalyn Gonzales. (KVC)
