Mocha Uson named as MTRCB board member

MOCHA Uson, a known supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, has been appointed as board member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea confirmed this in a text message sent to reporters.

At the sidelines of a press briefing in MalacaƱang, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar was asked why Uson was picked as MTRCB board member.

He replied, "Why not? What makes her not qualified?"

"Mocha is an artist. She is one of the biggest artists that we have in the country. She's been in the show business for more than a decade," Andanar added.

In a separate text message, MTRCB chairman Eugenio Villareal confirmed that the agency had received a copy of Uson's appointment letter.

Villareal, however, said Uson is yet to assume her post.

"The MTRCB received recently a copy of Ms Uson's appointment letter signed by the President; but she has yet to assume office in the agency," Villareal said.

The MTRCB is composed of a chairman, vice chairman and 30 board members.

Each one holds office for a term of one year but may be reappointed after the expiration of their term.
