DOH, Cebu-based firm ink MOA for construction of drug rehab in Bohol

MALACAÑANG announced Thursday that the Department of Health (DOH) had signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Cebu-based architectural firm Archiglobal Inc. last Wednesday for the construction of a second “mega” drug rehabilitation center in Bohol.

“The Department of Health signed a Memorandum of Agreement [on Wednesday], January 4, 2017, with Archiglobal to build the next mega drug abuse treatment and rehabilitation center inside the military Camp in Carmen in Bohol,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said.

As of December 31, a data from the Philippine National Police showed that a total of 1,007,153 drug personalities have yielded to the authorities since July 1, 2016.

Of the figures, 74,916 were drug pushers while 932,237 were drug users.

Last November 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte inaugurated the mega drug facility at Camp Fort Magsaysay in Laur, Nueva Ecija as part of his campaign promise to end the drug menace in the country.

Meanwhile, Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno said private and religious sectors had committed to helping the government in accommodating the drug dependents who had already submitted themselves to the authorities.

“Several of them have already initiated this move to rehabilitate our drug surrenderer[s]. So there were many [donors]. So we are glad that everybody is helping, not only the government, but also the private and religious sectors,” he said. (Sunnex)
